Chuala mé iomrá ar an scéal seo faoi ‘Ireland’s Greatest Figures’ le déanaí, agus bhí an clár teilifíse nua faoi chaibidil ar chlár raidió Ryan Tubridy ar maidin, áit a raibh sé ag labhairt le ‘John McHugh, producer of RTE TV Ireland's Greatest & Myles Duncan, broadcaster historian.’
Seo mar a deirtear ar shuíomh RTÉ:
‘RTÉ has invited the public to vote for Ireland's greatest figures as part of a new television series.
From a shortlist of 40 people, the public will be asked to vote for the greatest figures in the country's history.
The shortlist includes people from across the gamut of Irish life: sport, politics, music, arts and literature.’
Seo thíos an gearrliosta den 40 a roghnaíodh ón suirbhé MRBI a rinneadh, agus is féidir leat do vóta a chaitheamh anseo, más mian leat, nó is féidir tuilleadh eolais a fháil ar chlár Ryan Tubridy, ach éisteacht le clár an lae inniu anseo.

Dá mbeadh ar Mheiriceánach nó ar Eorpach an liosta seo a chur le chéile daoibh, bheadh Yeats agus Wilde ag an mbarr, is dócha, in éineacht le Pádraig, Colm Cille, Brian Boru, agus.... Danny Boy?
ReplyDelete;-)
Agus Gráinne, agus Deirdre, agus Bríd, agus Peig agus, i bhfocal an Gharraíodóra 'Mrs. Mac Cumhaill'!
ReplyDeleteCá bhfuil na mná ar an liosta -níl ach triúir ann Cá bhfuil Cúntaois Markievicz nó Dr Kathleen Lynn?- Tá fir an érí amach ansin ach na mná fágtha ar lár
ReplyDeleteChuala mé an clár ar maidin. Ní bheadh mórán meas agam ar an liosta atá curtha le chéile acu. Ronán Keating, Stephen Gatley, Joe Dolan, Daniel O' Donnell (cé go bhfuil sé muinteartha liom) ... an iad seo na daoine a shamlaímid mar laochra na hÉireann?
ReplyDeleteTá meas agam ar an cheol atá ag na daoine thuasluaite agus níor mhaith liom aon díspeagadh a dhéanamh ar an phleisiúr atá tugtha acu do na mílte, ach laochra? "The greatest Irish people of all time..?"
Is iontach liom neamhaird iomlán a bheith déanta ar Éire na nGael. (B'fhéidir nár chóir iontas a bheith orm) Gráinne Mhaol, Aodh Rua Ó Néill, Niall Naoi nGiollach, Brian Bóroimhe, Gearóid Mór, Gearóid Óg, Seathrún Céitinn, Míchéal Ó Cléirigh, John Duns Scotus, Aodh Ó Dónaill, Manás Ó Dónaill, Tadhg Dall, Raifeartaigh file etc etc.
Insíonn sé rud éigin dúinn faoin aimsir ina mairimid.
Tá O'Donaill agus De Bhaldraithe le m'ais agus Dinneen thuas an staighre.
ReplyDeleteIs léir dom, ón méid atá á chloisteáil agus á léamh agam, go bhfuil go leor daoine nach bhfuil róshásta leis an liosta seo.
ReplyDeleteAch, san áit a mbíonn pobal ag roghnú, nó ag vótáil, bíonn, ahem, éagsúlacht!
Seo daoibh Ireland's greatest figure:

Daniel O'Connell agus Daniel O'Donnell, ab ea? Ní féidir a chur i leith an té a chum a liosta thuas nach bhfuil sé gan chiall do ghreann.
ReplyDeleteNuair nach raibh ach an ceannlíne léite agam cheap mé go mba dheacair dom an rogha a dhéanamh idir Aodh Mór Ó Néill agus Gaybo. Ach níl ceachter acu ar an liosta!! ;-)
Agus cá bhfuil Dustin an Turcaí?
Suimiúil gur luaigh tú Gaybo, a Ormondo, mar tá a ainm cloiste agam go mion minic ó tháinig an liosta sin amach, agus iontas nach beag ar go leor daoine nach bhfuil a ainm áit éigin ann.
ReplyDeleteTá ainm T.K Whittaker cloiste agam, freisin.
Tá snáithe suimiúil le léamh faoi pholaiteorí éagsúla ag an nasc thíos.

Maidir le Dustin, níor chuala mé iomrá air ón Nollaig...
Figiúr suimiúil, gan dabht, a Shéamais!
