Sclábhaí nó Saorthoil?

Ní raibh mé ar an eolas faoin bhfeachtas seo sa Fhrainc, feachtas as ar tháinig na ‘oral sex anti-smoking posters’ - ceann acu ansin thuas, a léitheoirí, le ceannteideal ‘"Smoking is to be a slave to tobacco." - go dtí gur léigh mé alt suimiúil le Patrick Hayes ar Spiked ar maidin.

Luann sé, freisin, an feachtas ‘Get Unhooked’, feachtas in aghaidh tobac sa Ríocht Aontaithe as ar tháinig ‘the highest numbers of complaints the advertising standards watchdog has ever received.’, ach mhaígh an roinn sláinte ann go raibh gá leis na fógraí le go dtuigfeadh an pobal an ‘‘controlling nature of addiction to nicotine experienced by smokers every day’.

Tharraing feachtas in aghaidh tobac na Fraince aird, agus gearáin, nach beag, freisin, ach, dar le Marco de la Fuente, an fear a bhí i gceannas ar an bhfeachtas fógraíochta sa ghníomhaireacht fógraíochta BDDP et Fils, "The old arguments – tobacco is bad for you – don't work any more. The message here is that tobacco is a form of submission. In the popular imagination, oral sex is the perfect symbol of submission."

Tharraing Patrick Hayes m’aird i dtreo na dtreoirlínte atá ag an National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) thall, a mholann, dar leis, ‘that all pregnant women should be required to take regular breath tests that monitor carbon monoxide (CO) levels so that health officials can tell if they’re harming their babies by continuing to have a crafty fag or two. And just to be on the safe side, NICE also recommends pregnant women take regular urine and saliva tests.’

Meas tú, a léitheoirí, an bhfuil na feachtais in aghaidh tobac ag dul thar fóir ar fad ar fud an domhain, nó, mar a scríobh Patrick Hayes, ‘The pros and cons of smoking and quitting are best left to people to weigh up for themselves… To buy into the claim that we cannot control ourselves is to shun responsibility for our own personal choices.’?

An bhfuil gá ar chor ar bith le leithéidí na bpóstaer agus na bhfeachtas luaite aige ina alt, nó an fúinn féin é an andúil, is cuma cén andúil í, a sheachaint, agus a thabhairt suas, as ár stuaim féin?

  1. Níl aon amhras, chuaigh an feachtas sin sa Fhrainc thar fóir.

Ach sílim go bhfuil gá le feachtais chun aird a tharraingt ar an gcontúirt. Sa chaoi chéanna a bhfuil feachtais againn ar thiomáint faoi luas etc.

  2. Ach, a Dhubhaltaigh, meas tú an dtugann daoine óga, déagóirí mar shampla, aird dá laghad ar na feachtais seo? Sin an fhadhb, shílfeá...

  3. N'fheadar.

Saol aisteach atá againn; saoirse agat do rogha rud a chreideamh, ach é bheith IP. Tá fógraíocht "gheiteach" mar seo IP, ach an t-ábhar a bheith IP.

Ach go bhfóire dia ort má úsáideann tú geit chun aird a tharraingt ar rud atá neamh IP - dochar an ghinmhillte, abair.

Ach is faisisteachas atá i gceist leis na modhanna san alt, dar liom. Táir agus go holc ó thaobh cearta a bhaint de dhuine agus a bhí an sagart paróiste is measa riamh, guna mhaide draighean.

  5. Láinseáileadh an feachtas "Teens are Stupid" in Éirinn an tseachtain seo, ag iarradh an féin-mheasúnacht céanna a spreagadh i measc na ndéagóirí, is dócha. http://www.teensarestupid.ie/

  7. Go raibh maith agat, a John, as m'aird a tharraingt ar an bhfeachtas sin.

Ach, an ndéanfaidh sé aon mhaith? An léifidh na caiteoiri tobac é, agus má léann, an dtabharfaidh siad aird dá laghad air?

Cá bhfuil tionchar an tuismitheora sa lá atá inniu ann! An é nach bhfuil dea-shampla le fáil sa bhaile, nó an é nach bhfuil na tuismitheoiri ag roinnt na dteachtaireachtai cuí maidir le contúirt na handúile?
